6/2/2004 DATE.COM INTRODUCES ‘OPERATION LOVE-LINK' Members of U.S. Armed Forces Offered Free Membership to Online Dating Service NEW YORK, - Date.com, a leading online dating site, announced today the launch of “Operation Love-Link,” a project designed to help single members of the United States armed forces correspond via e-mail with singles in the States and elsewhere. Operation Love-Link will run from today through the end of February. “The ongoing U.S. military campaign, Operation Enduring Freedom, is the first in which military personnel stationed overseas can correspond easily with civilians via e-mail,” said Andrew Szabo, vice president of communications, Date.com. “Gone are the days of waiting patiently for ‘mail call.' Using today's technology and the Date.com program, we can enable our single service men and women to correspond with civilian singles around the world. This correspondence can provide military personnel with important human links back home during lonely times and, who knows, might even lead to the kind of true romance that so many of our members have found online. Giving away complimentary gold memberships is our way of saying thanks for protecting our freedom.” Szabo said that military personnel can register for free on Date.com by selecting “military” as their profession and inserting a special code before their user names. The code will be released in a series of paid advertisements in Stars & Stripes, the military's daily newspaper. At the Date.com site, visitors and members will be encouraged to send messages, particularly on Valentine's Day, to members of the armed forces. “Valentine's Day can be lonely for singles without partners, and especially so for singles in the military stationed overseas,” Szabo said. “It is our hope that ‘Operation Love-Link' will bring comfort and supportive thoughts to the military personnel who are risking their lives fighting to defend our freedoms. We hope that our members will show their support to these brave fighting men and women by sending them encouraging messages. We feel it's a great morale booster.” |
